New Brunswick IRP application accepted by membership

ARLINGTON, Va. (July 20, 1999) — As expected, New Brunswick received unanimous approval to join the International Registration Plan as the fifty-third member jurisdiction.

New Brunswick would begin to implement IRP procedures in April 2001.

IRP is a prorate agreement used by the U.S. states and three Canadian provinces — British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Alberta — to apportion heavy vehicle registration fees.

Quebec applied for membership on June 1. Its application is expected to be approved on September 30. Quebec also would implement IRP procedures in April 2001.

Manitoba, Ontario, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and P.E.I. are said to be preparing their applications for IRP membership.
