New Canpar president named

MONTREAL — TransForce has named a successor to the late John Cyopeck, former CEO of the trucking giant’s main parcel delivery fleet, Canpar Transport.

A veteran Canpar executive, John P. Emsley has been appointed to take over the top job of president, starting today, August 3, 2006.

In his 21 years with the company, Emsley rose through the ranks, most recently becoming vice-president and chief financial officer.

“We believe that John Emsley is the right person to lead Canpar into the future and we are very pleased to have found new leadership within the management team at Canpar,” said Alain Bédard, chairman, president and CEO of parent company TransForce Income Fund. “John’s management experience and history with Canpar will ensure a seamless transition for Canpar customers and employees.”

The much loved and respected Cyopeck, who also acted as vice-chair of the Ontario Trucking Association and chairman of the Canadian Trucking Alliance, passed away this April after a hard-fought battle with brain cancer.

Recently, a new $22 million, state-of-the-art operations hub in Toronto was built in John Cyopeck’s name. Canpar’s 170,000-sq ft John Cyopeck Centre replaces the aging 100,000-sq ft center in downtown Toronto.
