New York DOT pulls out all the stops. Well, actually just six… but still!
ALBANY, N.Y. – – The New York State Department of Transportation plans to temporarily close six highway rest stops this fall to save money.
The closures, effective beginning on Nov. 1, will include rest stops on Interstates 81, 87, 88 and 90.
According to the DOT, the rest stops chosen for closure are some of the oldest and smallest in the state.
The agency’s 32 other highway rest facilities will remain operational.
The DOT estimates the closures, along with last June’s shutdown of the Schroon Lake rest area on I-87 southbound, will generate about $490,000 in savings during the 2010-2011 fiscal year and $1.1 million in subsequent fiscal years.
The rest areas that will be closed are:
• Brewerton/Hastings on I-81 southbound between exits 31 and 32.
?• Schodack on I-90 westbound between exits 11 and 12
?• Lewis on I-87 southbound in Essex County between exits 31 and 32.
• Worcester on I-88 eastbound between exits 18 and 19 near Oneonta.
