New York, Quebec sign border accord

MONTREAL (Dec. 4, 2001) — Quebec and the State of New York announced a plan to increase security and speed up the flow of trade and traffic between the two jurisdictions.

Quebec will add a customs lane dedicated to heavy trucks at the Lacolle-Champlain border crossing as part of the province’s $75-million investment package, the Canadian Press reported.

Trade between Quebec and New York has increased 300% over the last 10 years and the hope is to keep expanding while offering better safety in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
