Newcom trucking mags nominated for 10 KRW awards; TT.com gets another nod

TORONTO — Last year around this time, the website that you’re looking at was named the top business-to-business magazine website in Canada.

This week, TodaysTrucking.com was recognized again as one of the finest online business resources in the country and gets a shot at winning the Gold award for the second year in a row (it won Silver in 2005) at the Canadian Business Press’ Kenneth R. Wilson Awards — sort of like the Pulitzers for B2B-trade journalism in Canada.

The recognition comes as part of a handful of accolades awarded to the website, its parent magazine Today’s Trucking, its sister magazines HighwaySTAR and Transport Routier, and several other properties operated by Newcom Business Media.

Today’s Trucking’s April 2006 edition is a top 10 finalist
for Best Overall Issue at this year’s KRW Awards.

For the upcoming 2007 KRW Awards, Newcom’s three trucking magazines and website were nominated for a total of 10 awards in several categories — seven more mentions than any other industry related publication in Canada.

Other than TT.com, Today’s Trucking magazine was once again named among the Top 10 in several fields. Most importantly, the April 2007 issue is a finalist in the Best Overall Issue Category. Other nods include:

Best Industrial/Manufacturing Article. Editorial Director Rolf Lockwood was nominated for a story called “Hybrids Hybrids Everywhere.”

Senior Editor Marco Beghetto earned top-10 nominations for two stories. He was cited in the Best Retail Article category for “Fuel for Thought.” And for Best News Coverage, he was recognized for “Sky’s the Limit.”

Meanwhile, highwaySTAR magazine, claimed top-10 standing in four categories, including Editor Jim Park’s columns “Actions and Reactions” and “Collision Course” in the Best Editorial category. He’s also a finalist in the Best Resource/Infrastructure Article for the story “David and Goliath” and Best How-To Articles for his series on brakes called “Grinding to a Halt.”

HighwaySTAR contributor Duff McCutcheon is nominated in the Best Profile of a Person category for his story called “Songs of Experience.” And Transport Routier’s editor Steve Bouchard was named a finalist in the Best Feature Story category for “Partir en 60 Secondes.”

Other Newcom publications, Canadian Technician (5 nominations) and Plumbing and HVAC (1 nomination), give the company a total of 16 top 10 citations for 2007.

According to Masthead magazine — a publication covering the magazine publishing industry — Today’s Trucking ranks 26th among the top 102 magazines in Canada (including both business trade and consumer titles) for total award placement at presentations across the nation. It also measures 4th overall among all business trade publications.
