No wonder it’s called the show-me state

KANSAS CITY, Mo.– Politicians in the state of Missouri are thinking about introducing truck-only lanes on I-70 on the stretch between St. Louis and KC.

Here’s how it would work:

Under the plan, there would be two lanes of traffic each way for cars, two lanes each for big rigs, and local traffic would move from lane to lane except when.. oh heck, this is too confusing.

Why not just click on http://youtube.com/modotvideo?

That’s right. In order to explain the idea to taxpayers and businesses, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) has turned to YouTube and posted a 10-minute clip that combines actual video footage with computer simulation that makes the truck-only lanes understandable.

“We’re broadening the way we’re trying to communicate to the public,” said Sally Oxenhandler, spokeswoman for the department. “Sometimes things are hard to visualize when you hear about them. It’s easier to see it on video.”

It wouldn’t be the first time the government has used YouTube to explain a complicated plan.

The State previously posted videos to show people in the Ozarks how new passing lanes on Highway 5 work.
