North America-wide brake inspection blitz today

OTTAWA (Sept. 5, 2001) — Truck safety inspectors throughout Canada and the United States will conduct a North America-wide brake-inspection blitz today as part of Operation Air Brake, a campaign sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance and the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators.

CVSA is an organization of commercial safety inspectors in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. CCMTA is comprised of motor vehicle regulators in Canada.

Operation Air Brake, which began in 1998, is conducted several days each year to reduce the number of brake-related violations. Brake-related defects are the most frequent commercial vehicle equipment violation.

Organizers stress that the primary objective is education about brake compliance.
