Nova Scotia lifts spring weight restrictions in Halifax, Hants counties
HALIFAX (April 17, 2000) — The Nova Scotia Dept. of Transportation lifted spring weight restrictions in Halifax and Hants counties last week.
Spring weight restrictions are designed to protect roads weakened by a combination of frost leaving the ground and wet spring weather. Warm weather has prompted the province to open some roads earlier than planned. Restrictions have already been lifted in the counties of Yarmouth, Shelburne, Digby, Queens, Annapolis, Kings and Lunenburg.
Spring weight restrictions were put into effect on March 2 across the province. Restrictions on roads in all other counties remain in effect. The department will continue to issue notices as more roads open in the near future.
A list of roads closed can be found on the Dept. of Transportation and Public Works Web site.
