NS offers rebates for green-friendly truck devices

DIEPPE, N.S. — Truckers who own or lease class 8 tractor-trailers will now be eligible to receive up to $2,500 plus HST towards the purchase of fuel-saving SmartWay-approved devices.

The Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association will administer the $1 million Energy Efficiency Incentive Program on behalf of Conserve Nova Scotia.

Aftermarket products that are eligible for rebates include, anti-idling devices or APUs, aerodynamic devices, low rolling resistance tires, and tire pressure monitoring and inflation systems.

France Gagnon of the APTA tells todaystrucking.com that applicants do not have to be carrier members of the association to get the rebates.

To be eligible for rebates, all equipment purchased and installed must be on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay Transport list of verified technologies.

Rebates must be pre-approved and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications must be submitted to the APTA by July 30, 2010 and equipment must be installed by Nov. 30, 2010.
