Online survey adds your voice to truckstop campaign

TORONTO — You already know there aren’t enough rest stops and parking places for truckers in this country.

Here’s your chance to do something about it. And all it’ll take is about 10 minutes of your time.

The Owner-Operators Business Association of Canada (OBAC) is working with all other trucking organizations across the country to identify areas in Canada where it’s hard for truckers to park. And they need your help.

Step one: Find out what’s out there and what’s not. To do that, they’re conducting an online survey that they’ll take to Transport Canada, which initiated the study.

"Here’s an opportunity to add your two cents to this most important debate," says OBAC Executive Director Joanne Ritchie.

"We’re encouraging all our members to tell as many other drivers as they can about it [the survey]," says OBAC Executive Director Joanne Ritchie.

"We need every driver to get involved; it’s drivers themselves who can identify areas in Canada where designated truck parking is difficult to find, and help determine how shortages of parking impact your safety, productivity, and personal well-being."

No identifying information is required unless you would like to provide it so the surveyors can call with follow-up questions.

And no identifying information will be shared with enforcement or carrier personnel.

Adds Ritchie. "Please limit your responses to situations you experience while traveling in Canada."
