OOIDA launches ‘hot fuel’ website

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. — There’s been a lot of controversy lately over the so-called “hot fuel” issue south of the border.

In an effort to educate the public and truck drivers, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association has taken its campaign to the Internet.
OOIDA has launched a new Web site, turndownhotfuel.com, which contains everything fuel buyers need to know about the issue.

Basically, OOIDA and other consumer groups are claiming that U.S. oil companies and retailers are gouging consumers in warmer areas because the warmer the fuel, the less measurable energy and fewer miles to the gallons a vehicle will receive.

Critics want the industry to install on pumps automatic temperature-compensation, which are said to make up the difference in price. But so far, oil companies have refused.

In addition to the basic facts, the website contains links myths and facts about hot fuel and a glossary of terms.
