OPP kick off week-long vehicle safety blitz
TORONTO — Ontario Provincial Police will be out in full force across the province’s highway network this week.
All 165 detachments in Ontario and cops in other provinces will participate in the seven-day enforcement blitz as part of the Canada Road Safety Week campaign, which this year runs from 12:01 a. m. today, May 12, to 11:59 p. m. May 18.
Police will be targeting aggressive drivers, those who drink and drive, seatbelt violations and overall vehicle fitness.
OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino told media that his men will be paying close attention to drivers who speed and those that don’t move over when passing an emergency vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road.
Canada Road Safety Week supports Canada’s Road Safety Vision 2010, a plan to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world.
