OTA offering fuel, food, and VW&D reforms seminars
TORONTO — The Ontario Trucking Association is offering a number of seminars this month that are designed to help boost carriers’ operational success. They include:
FUEL SEMINAR (Oct. 17):
How can you cope with today’s skyrocketing price of fuel? Find out what you need to know to about market fluctuations, hedging and successfully managing a fuel surcharge. Full Day, Toronto, Includes Lunch.
FOOD SAFETY IN TRUCK TRANSPORATION (Oct. 24):
This seminar will address the new initiative launched by the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) to develop a trucking-specific food safety program. Seminar attendees will be provided with an introduction to HACCP, and different perspectives on why it is of growing importance from the perspective of shippers, carriers and government. In addition, attendees will be provided with an overview of the HACCP-based trucking food safety program developed by CTA under the direction of Agriculture Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

MTO PHASE 3 WEIGHT & DIMENSION (VW&D) REFORMS (Oct 21; Nov. 29):
To reduce damage to infrastructure and improve highway safety the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has introduced new regulations governing vehicle design (Ontario Regulation 413/05). These changes will affect vehicles built after January 1, 2006 as well as some existing noncompliant vehicles. This seminar will identify the changes in regulations and the standards to which new vehicles must conform to be considered Safe, Productive and Infrastructure Friendly as well as be able to continue operating at today’s gross vehicle weights. Full Day Seminar, Toronto, includes lunch.
