OTA to hold seminars on Michigan SBT
TORONTO (Dec. 18, 2000) — The Ontario Trucking Association will offer a series of seminars to explain the impact of a decision by Michigan lawmakers to cut by at least two-thirds the Canadian trucking industry’s liability for the state’s Single Business Tax.
The changes will allow Canadian trucking companies to reduce the amount of compensation included in determining their SBT tax base, by either a straight 50% or by a mileage-based formula.
The accounting firm Deloitte & Touche will lead the seminars, which will be offered four times:
North Bay, Jan. 23; London, Jan. 30; Toronto, Feb. 1; and Kingston, Feb. 2.
The seminars will provide background on the SBT, a look at the new rules, and show how to determine tax liability.
Cost: $500 ($400 for OTA members).
