Pacing economy, Texas highways get faster
AUSTIN, Tex. — One of the few economic bright spots in the U.S., the state of Texas will boost highway traffic speeds as high as 85 mph.
Newly built highways will post an 85 mph speed limit as long as engineering supports it.
A companion law increases speeds for all vehicles, including commercial trucks, to 80 mph on an estimated 520 miles of interstate 10 and 20 in West Texas.
The limit had previously applied only for cars only during daylight hours.
As well, the speed limit on most rural highways for all vehicles has been standardized at 75 mph.
