Park it right over here

Despite past complaints and a 130-signature petition from area residents, Truckers residing in Blind River, Ont. will be allowed to park their rigs at home.

Responding to Truckers’ argument that the practice was essential to their livelihoods, the community’s town council passed a bylaw this week making it legal for drivers to park their trucks in front of their homes. Until now, the practice had been tolerated even though a zoning bylaw made it illegal.

The bylaw allows the parking of one unit per household and the privilege will be revoked if the practice is stopped for a year or more. Fines for those who break the rule are $150 for the first offence and up to $2000 for others that follow.
