PeopleNet inks deal with JJ Keller; offers MPG guarantee

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — PeopleNet has joined J.J. Keller Consulting Services to form the PeopleNet-J.J. Keller Safety Program — a comprehensive set of safety and regulatory compliance resources in the fleet industry.

According to Rick Ochsendorf, PeopleNet’s vice president of operations, the need for a safety consulting source arose from the implementation of PeopleNet’s driver log automation application, eDriver Logs.

“As we successfully implemented that program in more and varied fleets, we found that many were struggling to meet legal safety requirements and, more importantly, maximize fleet safety on the road,” said Ochsendorf.

On the PeopleNet side of the partnership, PeopleNet Professional Services will help fleets maximize the benefit of eDriver Logs through planning and training, including establishing ROI and using eDriver Logs data to enhance load planning and dispatch. Training will include managing drivers who challenge the program, dealing with violations in real time and ultimately using eDriver Logs to improve driver relations and retention.

J.J. Keller will help fleets analyze existing policies and procedures and recommending changes.

They might address general motor carrier safety, vehicle maintenance practices, drug and alcohol testing, hazardous materials, workplace safety and specific issues involving the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Meanwhile, PeopleNet also launched the MPG Guarantee Program, a service to help fleets improve miles-per-gallon fuel performance.

The new offering based on years of in-depth experience with many North American fleets is backed with a unique money-back guarantee, the company says.

The goal of the program is to increase fleet mpg by from 5 to 10 percent. At today’s prices, that can represent millions of dollars. It involves a year-long collaboration during which PeopleNet Professional Services will audit customer practices, then develop and implement a plan.

Ochsendorf said the program includes six distinct phases that begin with an in-depth analysis of fuel purchasing, maintenance, driver habits, operating efficiency and equipment specs. It goes on to establish measurement benchmarks and a custom, fleet-specific plan to improve mpg.
