Pete: LNG engines get factory-installed
Peterbilt
Peterbilt will factory-install natural gas engines for its low-cab-forward Model 320, a truck aimed at municipal refuse fleets. Two engines are available: a Cummins-Westport C8.3G natural gas engine with a liquid natural gas fuel system and a dual-fuel (diesel and liquid natural gas) Caterpillar C-11, although the C-11 wonít be available until next year.
Currently, third-party companies perform the natural-gas conversion. Factory installation means you can order an LNG-powered 320 directly from your local Peterbilt dealership and receive a single invoice for the unit, rather than working with two or three different companies. Trucks with the Cummins-Westport engine will include a super-insulated fuel tank with a 119-gallon capacity and a methane detection system is installed for added safety.
