Peterbilt Adds UltraShaft

Peterbilt is adding the Eaton Fuller UltraShift automated 10-speed transmission as an option for its over-the-road, heavy-duty vehicles. Full availability starts in 2004.

“Auto-shifting transmissions are increasingly popular as customers look for ways to increase their productivity and reduce operator fatigue,” says Peterbilt assistant general manager Dan Sobic, adding that many operators see improved fuel economy versus manuals.

The 10-speed UltraShift is a two-pedal system with fully automatic operation, eliminating the need for a clutch pedal. It is based on the Eaton Fuller 10-speed “B” ratio gearbox and is offered in four torque capacities from 1,050 to 1,650 pounds-feet.
