Pig truck crash shuts down busy 401
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Both directions of Highway 401 just west of Toronto were closed for at least an hour at the height of rush hour this morning after a tractor-trailer hauling pigs collided with two other vehicles.
The livestock truck crashed with a pickup truck and a car near Winston Churchill Blvd. in Mississauga.
According to local radio news reports, the pigs being transported escaped the wrecked trailer and were seen grazing in several groups along the shoulder of the highway.
Initial reports suggest there is at least one life-threatening injury as a result of the accident. Reportedly, there isn’t much left of the passenger car.
Traffic in both directions was a standstill as all eastbound and westbound lanes were completely shut down.
According to local news radio reports, westbound lanes were reopened at 9:30am, while all eastbound lanes heading into Toronto were still closed at 10: 00 am.
