Poll points to opposition to DRIC project

DETROIT — A group that opposes a new bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor, is heralding the results of a recent poll of Michigan residents that shows they oppose public funding for such a project.

The statewide poll of 500 residents, conducted by political consultant Dick Morris, shows 51.8% would rather see a second Ambassador Bridge span that is privately financed.

Of those polled, 27.6% preferred a government solution, paid for by the Canadian and Michigan governments, and 20.6% had no opinion.

For another set of poll questions, Mr. Morris also surveyed one thousand Canadian residents. They were asked if Canada would lend Michigan $550 million to build a bridge, would they support or oppose building the bridge.

Almost two-thirds of Canadians polled (63.2%) opposed the bridge, while 27.8% supported it, and 9% did not know.
