Port of Vancouver to launch reservation system Sept. 27
VANCOUVER (Sept. 10, 1999) — The Vancouver Port Authority plans to implement a tighter reservation system for drayage haulers at the Port of Vancouver’s container terminals, Vanterm, Centerm and Deltaport, in order to reduce congestion.
The scheduling system, which will begin Sept. 27, will provide specific time slots for port-licensed carriers. Initially, this new system will handle a limited amount of containers, the port said, and then be gradually expanded.
The system features voluntary pre-booking for trucking firms who will be served on a first-call and first-booked basis. Reservations will be given in hourly time slots and there is no cost to the carrier. Each of the port’s three container terminals is participating in the reservation system with slight variations relative to imports and exports.
Bookings will be accepted Friday, Sept. 24 for Monday, Sept. 27, when the system begins.
The VPA will host two informational meetings for interested parties on Sept. 14, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Radisson Hotel, 4331 Dominion, in Burnaby, and on Sept. 15 at the Sheraton Guildford Hotel, 15269 104 Ave., in Surrey.
