Preparing for post-Jan. 1: Conference set to explain new NAFTA regs for carriers
WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 17, 2001) — With the transportation provisions of the North American Free Trade Agreement scheduled to take effect Jan. 1, 2002, the U.S. Dept. of Transportation has scheduled a conference to help motor carriers from all three NAFTA countries comply with new compliance and operating rules.
The conference, Oct. 21-24 at the Hyatt Hotel in San Antonio, Texas, will cover customs, immigration, agricultural, and other requirements imposed by each NAFTA country.

U.S., Canadian, and Mexican government officials will participate in a broad range of panel sessions, including applying for U.S., Mexican, and Canadian operating authority; immigration requirements for drivers; customs requirements for foreign trucks; and motor carrier safety standards.
All conference sessions will be conducted with simultaneous translation in English and Spanish.
