Progress made on Hwy. 97 expansion in BC
VICTORIA — B.C. highway workers continue to pave the road for a $54-million Highway 97 expansion project north of Summerland, B.C.
One than a million cubic metres of rock and dirt has been removed so far, said Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon.
The Highway 97 four-laning project from Bentley Road to Okanagan Lake Park is seven kilometres long, and will include three major intersections and three kilometres of frontage roads to consolidate highway access.
The Federal Government is contributing $22 million from the Building Canada plan toward this phase of work, with B.C. is investing the remaining $32 million of the estimated $54 million capital cost.
Work on the Bentley Road to Okanagan Lake Park project began in February 2008. ?Opening is expected in the summer of 2009.
Drivers are being warned that long traffic delays continue while the work is ongoing.
