Province recognized for making highways safer
ST. JOHN’S — Newfoundland and Labrador was recognized by American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) for achieving the greatest reduction of highway deaths in the country.
The province recorded a drop of more than 12 percent, compared to only 1.9 percent for the national average.
The government said the drop in fatalities is a result of campaigns against speeding, impaired driving and cell phone use while driving.
