Purolator, union avoid strike

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Nearly 10,000 Purolator workers, including 3,500 drivers and owner-operators remain on the job today after the company reached a tentative agreement for a contract renewal with Teamsters Canada.

Purolator’s couriers, package handlers, transport truck drivers and owner-operators were on the verge of walking off the job today before company and union reps returned to the bargaining table for a last-minute deal.

Workers nationwide will vote on the new contract in the coming weeks.

“It’s business as usual at Purolator,” said Stephen Gould, senior-vice president, Human Resources for Purolator. “We’re pleased that we were able to
work with the Teamsters to resolve the outstanding issues so quickly. With a new tentative agreement our customers can continue shipping with us with confidence.”

The tentative agreement was reached with the assistance of senior officials from Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services.
