Quebec carrier swallows competition

LAURIER STATION, Que. — One of Quebec’s largest for-hire carriers, the furniture experts V.A. Inc., has just acquired two of its major competitors, Nesel Fast Freight, of Brampton, Ont., and Transport Gingras, based in Flavier Station on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River.

Until the purchase, both Nesel and Gingras were part of the Calyx Group of companies, which as recently as this past March purchased Totalline, Kreative Carriers and Branscam Logistics.

This latest acquisition, our sister publication Transport Routier has learned, should double V.A.’s fleet size to approximately 1,000 units, likely making it one of the top 25 largest for-hire carriers in Canada.

All three companies share similar expertise and cover much the same territory in the furniture and appliance-hauling sectors, mainly in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

Calyx says the sale of Nesel and Gingras allows its operating companies to continue to focus on other high growth opportunities within the transportation and logistics market.

V.A. says that the companies will continue to be operated independently to allow optimal freight management and improved service.
