Ribbon cut at Canpar’s new John Cyopeck Centre
TORONTO — TransForce’s parcel delivery arm has just opened a new $22 million, state-of-the-art operations hub in Toronto.
Canpar Transport’s new 170,000-sq ft terminal uses the most advanced technology in North America, says Alain Bédard, Chairman, President, and CEO of parent company TransForce — Canada’s largest for-hire trucking carrier.
Its new computerized system ensures accurate measuring and weighing of all parcels passing through the facility, says Bedard. Other features include a parcel-sorting conveyor system to maximize flow-through; individual package carriers that will significantly reduce damages; a series of bar code reading scanners to maximize shipment visibility and routing, as well as the latest advances in security systems to ensure package safety.

The facility, which replaces the aging 100,000-sq ft center in downtown Toronto, will be named the John Cyopeck Centre in honor of Canpar’s long-time CEO and Canadian trucking visionary who lost a hard-fought battle with brain cancer in April.
“John Cyopeck believed strongly in the TransForce commitment to employees,” said Bedard in a statement. “The new technology is an important customer-focused investment but it is equally important to us that the new centre will be a much better workplace for the employees.”
Bedard adds that the technological capabilities of the new hub will significantly improve the efficiency of Canpar’s operations, increasing both competitiveness and profitability. “We anticipate both enhanced customer service and rapid payback on our $22 million investment in leading-edge technology and equipment,” he said.
Canpar now has 62 locations including seven hubs across Canada, with Toronto representing the majority of its volume of pickups and deliveries.
The new Canpar distribution facility was developed in cooperation with a number of strategic partner organizations, including Sandvik Sorting Systems
and the Toronto Economic Development Corp.
The facility was one of three finalists nominated for the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) Industrial Development of the Year
Real Estate Excellence (REX) Award.
It was specifically designed to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) Certified status by incorporating energy efficiency and sustainable design measures that result in reduced energy consumption and operating costs.
