RoadCheck scheduled for June 5-7

OTTAWA (April 23, 2001) — RoadCheck, the annual 72-hour roadside truck inspection blitz, is scheduled for June 5-7.

Sponsored by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, the inspection effort will check trucks and buses and their drivers at sites along major highways, while roving patrols will cover other highways. The event is coordinated by CCMTA member jurisdictions in concert with the United States and Mexico to promote commercial vehicle safety.

Trucks and drivers are subject to inspection procedures developed by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA).

During RoadCheck 2000, more than 40,000 vehicles were inspected; 1580 trucks and 142 drivers were placed out of service for various defects and violations. The national out-of-service (OOS) rate for was 23% of vehicles inspected, unchanged from 1999. The primary reason for vehicles being placed OOS continues to be brake problems.
