RoadRailer service extended to Chicago
Canadian National Railway is acquiring 200 53-foot, tandem-axle RoadRailer trailers for its intermodal extension between the busy Toronto-Chicago freight corridor. The 110-inch high trailers feature a 101.25-inch interior width and over 4,000 cubic feet of capacity.
CN says it will offer shippers next-morning RoadRailer service in the Toronto-Chicago lane and second morning delivery between Montreal and Chicago.
RoadRailer director Mark Lerner claimed that the service is growing in popularity because “shippers are discovering that they needn’t be tied to the demands and high prices of the trucking industry.” He also claimed the service is as efficient as trucking.
