Roll out the bearings
ArvinMeritor’s commercial vehicle aftermarket group rolled out new self-aligning centre bearings for popular heavy-duty truck and tractor applications.
Marketed as Meritor Gold, the bearings will accept plus or minus five degrees of angularity to assure the right alignment of the centre bearing to the driveshaft under all operating conditions. The new design also protects the bearing against contamination, and is now distinguishable from the old design by the gold colour of the integral deflectors. Another benefit: separate dust shields (slingers) common to the previous design are no longer required.
The new centre bearings are interchangeable with the most popular design of centre bearings in the industry. However, Meritor Gold centre bearings should not be serviced with old style centre bearings due to possible angularity issues, the company says. The new bearings are available through ArvinMeritor’s OEM dealer and warehouse distributor network. For more details, go to www.arvinmeritor.com.
