Roll’em

Waste collectors can make good money with roll-off trucks, the kind that drop off and pick up those bulky metal bins at construction sites. That is, these operators can succeed if they’re efficient. It’s tough work for a truck and chassis, involving cramped job sites and loads that are heavy, both in terms of gross weights and powertrain demands. Durability can’t be in question.

In keeping with its strategy to engineer and market chassis and body packages, International Truck and Engine announced plans to produce a 7000 Series severe-service truck with a frame pre-punched to accept a roll-off hoist body. The hoists, supplied by G&H, have a 10-inch roll-off frame, 50-degree dump angle, and cycle times as low as 22 seconds for hoist up and 12 seconds for hoist down. Capacity tops out at 75,000 pounds, with 22-foot or 24-foot rails to accommodate different container sizes. For details, go to www.international
