Saskatchewan boasts best drivers in Canada at 2003 championships
WINNIPEG, (Sept. 11, 2003) — Canada’s “best of the best” rolled their rigs into Winnipeg this past weekend to showcase their truck-driving skills at the 2003 National Professional Truck Driving Championships at the Red River Exhibition Park in Winnipeg.
The annual event — hosted this year by the Manitoba Trucking Association — invites provincial champions to come together to compete on a test track complete with obstacles simulating everyday driving conditions.
Team Saskatchewan was crowed the winning team, with an average score of 375 points. The team included Keith Parker of Purolater Courier; Ralph Schierling of Reimer Express Lines Ltd.; Brian Weslowski of SLH Transport Inc.; Harvey Gording of Reimer Express Lines Ltd.; Dwight Fisher of SLH Transport Inc.; and Marlen Peterson of Cameco Corp.
Dwight Fisher was also named Grand Champion of the entire event by earning first place in the Tandem/Tandem category. His runner up in the same category, Barry Bird of SLH in Manitoba, took home the Rookie of the Year Award.
Winners in other categories include: John Klassen of Reimer Express Lines in Manitoba won the Step Van class; Trevor Edgerton of SLH Transport in Ontario earned top marks for Straight Truck; Gary Good of Reimer Express Lines in Manitoba received first place in the Single/Single class; Harvey Gording of Reimer Express Lines won the Single/Tandem; and the Super B-Train class was topped by Marlen Peterson of Cameco Corp. in Saskatchewan.
