Saskatchewan carriers consolidate

REGINA — Two homegrown Regina carriers have combined their operations to establish a deeper footprint in the growing western market.

Schneider Group of companies has merged with 100-truck beverage hauler Prudhomme Trucks. The deal will see the creation of a $40 million company with 275 employees.

Prudhomme trucks CEO Mark Lemmerick will be leading the integration of the combined companies.

“This is a win for all stakeholders,” said Prudhomme President Denis Prudhomme, who started the company from a single owner-operator business in 1990. “Our truckload service is a perfect complement to the LTL (less than truckload) van operations of the Schneider Group.”

Prudhomme’s 100 trucks will help strengthen Schneider’s
presence in western Canada, says Don Schneider.

The two organizations currently offer a wide array of complimentary services. Prudhomme Trucks Ltd. provides truckload van services from Montreal to Vancouver, while Schneider provides primarily flatdeck carrier service within North America, as well as truckload van services in western and central Canada and into the southwestern U.S.

The consolidation will result in improved access to services and markets for all customers, says Don Schneider in a statement.

“Combining operations with Prudhomme Trucks is part of our ongoing investment strategy in western Canada. We believe Prudhomme’s strong presence in western Canada will enhance the north-south service currently offered by Schneider, and vice versa. More depth means better service for our customers,” he says

“With approximately 200 total power units and a combined employment of 275 people, we will become a major player in the ever-competitive North American transportation industry — and we’ll be doing it with our great staff based right here in Regina,” added Schneider. Customers will see no disruption in service. Both companies will continue to operate from their existing locations in Regina following the merger.

Prudhomme, who is also current president of the Saskatchewan Trucking Association, plays a leadership role in assisting the industry to address the issue of driver recruitment.

His company is actively involved in the direct recruitment of foreign-based drivers from places like the UK and Ukraine. Prudhomme also works with federal and provincial governments and other trade groups on the immigrant nominee program that assists overseas drivers and their families in moving to Saskatchewan.
