Schneider Goes Long on Collision Early Warning System

TROY, MI. — One of the biggest fleets on the continent,  Schneider National, is equipping all its new class 8 trucks with Meritor WABCO OnGuard Collision Safety systems, the company announced today.

OnGuard, a forward-looking radar sensor that monitors the distance, speed and deceleration of the vehicle ahead of the truck, was launched in 2007 and now it’s available from three of the four major truck OEMs in North America.

Not only does it monitor the vehicle in front, OnGuard helps truck drivers recognize and react to potentially dangerous driving situations.

The system is “always on” and provides trucks with an active braking system even when it’s in cruise.

If the driver doesn’t immediately decelerate after the system alerts him, OnGuard’s collision mitigation system (CMS) automatically de-throttles the engine and provides up to a 50-percent full service brake application

Says Mark Melletat, director of Field Operations, Meritor WABCO: “OnGuard further confirms Meritor WABCO’s commitment to safety systems as an industry leader, providing drivers with an additional safety measure in thousands of units operated by fleets across the country.”
