Search is on for Ont truck driver of the year

TORONTO – The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) and Volvo Trucks Canada are now accepting nominations for the 2011 OTA/Volvo Trucks Canada Ontario Driver of the Year.

Fleet managers who have drivers who they believe deserve to be recognized because of their collision-free driving record and exemplary professionalism both on and off the road, are encouraged to fill out a nomination form from the OTA website and submit it by the August 30 deadline.

To be eligible, a professional truck driver must be regularly employed for the past five years and during that period encountered no preventable collisions.

Judges will also look for participation in highway safety programs and initiatives, truck driving championships, involvement in driver training programs, customer commendations; and displays of unusual courtesy extended to other road users and acts of bravery or kindness arising out of highway incidents.

The winner will receive an attractive keepsake plaque engraved with the recipients name and a cheque for $500 courtesy of Volvo Trucks Canada.
