September’s Freight Index Climbs, Transcore
PORTLAND, Ore. — Transcore’s September North American Freight Index jumped 3.2 percent from August of this year— and up 45 percent when compared to September 2010.
Spot market freight availability was also at its highest since Hurricane Katrina.
Truckload freight rates for all equipment types also climbed, with national average rates for dry vans rising 2.3 percent compared to August, and 3.9 percent compared to September 2010, excluding fuel surcharge.
Reefer van rates went up 1.3 percent compared to August — 2.1 percent from the same month last year.
Flatbed rates stayed stable month-over-month showing a 0.6 percent increase from August. However, due to high demand, the segment showed a 10.2 percent gain year over year.
