ShipLogix, CAPS Logistics form alliance for optimization tool

HUDSON, Ohio (May 1, 2000) — ShipLogix, the first Application Service Provider (ASP) to introduce a Web-based collaborative transportation management software system for shippers, carriers, and their trading partners, has formed an alliance with the CAPS Logistics division of Baan Co. to provide the platform for its shipment optimization module.

The new ShipLogix program is a suite of affordable tools designed to streamline the process of purchasing and executing transportation for shippers, carriers, third-party providers and business-to-business marketplaces. BaanSCS TransPro will be used to facilitate ShipLogix Optimization, an electronic mode/shipment optimization function.

To use theoptimization tool, users simply log onto the ShipLogix Web site and enter shipment data including consignee addresses, required ship dates, shipment type and specific requested delivery times. The ShipLogix Web interface automatically loads the data into TransPro for offline processing. Once the shipments are processed, the customer automatically receives a downloadable plan that minimizes costs with the best service option.

The first commercial release of the ShipLogix product will be available in June.
