Slater’s Winning SCORE

Fleet safety consulting firm Slater Safety Systems has introduced two new products-a CD-ROM and a guidebook-to help fleets meet compliance standards established for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s (MTO) facility audit process.

Slater’s FAST (Facility Audit Survival Training) Guide is a clear, step-by-step explanation of what an MTO auditor looks for during a facility audit, and outlines specific things you can do to improve your score (and, presumably, your overall safety record). The book describes the documents you need, where they can be obtained, and tips to avoid unnecessary fines and CVOR points. Examples of key documents, checklists, and policies are included.

The FAST Guide is designed to be used in concert with Slater’s SCORE facility audit software. The guidebook shows what the operator needs to do prior to an audit in order to overcome the weaknesses that the software predicts. Using the MTO’s own formulas and guidelines, the program analyzes fleet operations based on operator input, and produces a physical scorecard including how many charges could be laid, and the cost of associated fines.

The 104-page FAST Guide and SCORE software are sold as a package for $359.

“The idea is to help you perform a thorough self-assessment that’s precisely in tune with how the MTO will score you,” Slater says. “We designed them so you don’t have to know compliance in order to use them, yet they give you the level of nitpicking detail that a compliance review officer will use. They take the surprise out of the process and show where you need to improve in advance of the MTO showing up at your door.”

Slater adds that while FAST and SCORE are tailored to Ontario regulations, they provide general guidelines fleets across Canada can use to develop more effective safety policies and practices.
