SOS TurboFlare: A Flare for the Electronic
Adams Industrial Supplies
Firing up an incendiary flare isn’t such a hot idea when the smell of fuel is in the air or there’s flammable freight nearby. You’re probably in enough trouble already.
An alternative is the SOS TurboFlare, an electronic warning signal distributed in Canada by Adams Industrial Supplies. Powered by four C-cell batteries, the SOS TurboFlare produces a brilliant, pulsing light from 20 extremely bright LEDs that lasts far longer than any standard incendiary flare (100-hour life with quality alkalines). The LEDs flash about 200 times per minute and are visible for up to five miles in clear weather, the manufacturer claims. Red or amber LEDs are standard, and blue, white, or green LEDs are available by special order.
Each unit weighs about a pound and is roughly eight inches in diameter and two inches high. It has a weatherproof, shockproof lens and body-promotional material shows a flare being rolled over by a car wheel-and emits a warning light when there is about 20 per cent of battery life remaining.
