Peterbilt announced plans to offer Sheppard dual steering gears on its heavy-duty conventional-cab models 385, 379, 378, and 357 in most configurations. The optional dual steering gears eliminate the power-assist cylinder, giving the front wheels more room to turn and providing better turning radius.

Pennzoil-Quaker State says its long-life extended warranty gear oils have met all of the requirements for complete warranty coverage on Dana drive axles. Under its Roadranger drivetrain partnership, Dana offers extended warranty coverage of 750,000 miles. The mineral-based Pennzoil lubricants may be used as initial fill for an extended drain interval of 500,000 miles and as service fill with a drain interval of 250,000 miles, the same as the synthetic-based lubricants on the approval list. The oils are available in SAE grades 75W-90 and 80W-140.

Pennzoil’s long-life extended warranty gear oils have also received O76-Q extended drain approval from ArvinMeritor, and Mack GO-J approval for use in Mack trucks, axles, and transmissions.

Transcraft and Aero Industries announced a marketing agreement to offer a roll-tarp option with the purchase of a new Transcraft flatbed trailer. Aero’s Conestoga rolling tarp system converts a flatbed into a covered van, yet allows the trailer to be loaded or unloaded from the back, overhead, or either side-and covered or uncovered without the driver ever having to leave the ground.

Freightliner Custom Chassis, which builds step vans, school buses, motor homes, and other specialty vehicles, has made the Mercedes-Benz MBE900 engine standard on walk-in van applications. Available in a four-cylinder, 4.3-litre version, the MBE900 available in two ratings: 170 horsepower at 2,300 rpm and 190 horsepower at 2,300 rpm. Peak torque is 420 pounds-feet at 1,400 rpm for the 170-horsepower rating and 520 pounds-feet at 1,400 rpm for the 190-horsepower rating. Mercedes-Benz MBE900 engines comply with U.S. EPA and California emissions regulations. Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) MBE900 engines are available.
