Speed limiter protest reset for March
TORONTO — After getting snowed out in late December, truckers actively opposed to Ontario’s mandatory speed limiter rule have set a new protest date.
Cambridge, Ont. protest organizer and OOIDA member Scott Mooney has rescheduled the event for March 2 at Queen’s Park in Toronto, according to OOIDA’s official publication, Land Line.
Mooney has been organizing a demonstration against the legislation online through his anti-speed limiter Facebook page. He says he’s signed up more than 500 members so far.
The group plans to launch a convoy of trucks from the Ayr, Ont. region to Queen’s Park to show their displeasure with the law, which officially kicked off with ‘educational’ enforcement on Jan. 1. (Hard enforcement begins July 1, 2009).
Even then, Mooney and other owner-ops say they have no intention of setting their truck engine’s ECM at 105 km/h.
"I’m looking forward to getting my first citation and having my day in court," Mooney told Land Line.
