Spot freight continues y-y gains: TransCore

PORTLAND, Ore. — Freight availability in February more than tripled on the North American spot market from the year ago period, with a 215 percent boost.

According to the TransCore Freight Index, February marked the fifth straight monthly year-to-year increase, during a month that is normally weak for spot freight.

February spot freight reached within 5 percent of the record levels of 2004, states the Index, which measures truckload freight volume on load boards supported by the DAT Network, including 3sixty Freight Match, TruckersEdge.net and TransCore’s Canadian division, Link Logistics.

Brokers, 3PLs, carriers, and owner-operators in North America list more than 50 million loads and trucks per year across a variety of services feeding TransCore’s DAT Network.

As a result, the company considers its Freight Index as a good barometer of trends in spot market freight availability.
