Target sets sights on new Cornwall D.C.
CORNWALL, ONT. – – Where Wally goes, the rest just follow.
On Tuesday, retailing giant Target announced a brand-new 1.3-million-sq-ft distribution center on 169 acres here, not far from Walmart’s and Shoppers Drug Mart’s DCs.
"This is great news for Cornwall, as it further solidifies our position as an important logisitics hub in Central Canada," said Cornwall Mayor Bob Kilger.
"We are very pleased to work with Target on this significant investment."
Adds Bob Gauthier, founder and president of Cornwall-based Seaway Express, the local carrier specializing in helping out-of-town carriers serve the distribution centers: “We are looking forward to helping carriers in a supporting role delivering into some of Canada’s largest retailers.
“Seaway does expect expansion to handle the extra volumes that this addition to the industrial park will bring.
“Having three of some of Canada’s largest retailer DCs set up in our backyard sure has been great opportunity for Seaway.”
Target’s facility is slated to open for business in 2013.
