Thermo King Rolls Out New Reefers

Thermo King announced availability of its new Spectrum Series, designed for tighter temperature control, faster temperature pull-down and recovery, higher capacities, fuel efficiency, and less maintenance.

Designed to replace the company’s Whisper models, three Spectrum systems are available for up to three multi-zone trailer requirements: the Spectrum SB, DE and Spectrum Super II. The models use remote evaporators, providing up to
35% more capacity than existing units and resulting in a 20% faster pull-down and 25% more airflow. Because the units pull down and recover faster, the engines operate less at high speed and run less overall, saving on fuel.

The Spectrum Series units use Thermo King’s new Smart Set technology, which allows temperatures to be maintained within a tight band, helping keep dehydration to a minimum. The DAS-Data Acquisition System-provides total load temperature records and is a factory-installed option.

The Smart Reefer MP-IV controller is standard on the trailer systems and provides tighter temperature control by operating within a closer range. The controller also offers a user-friendly keypad, full system pre-trip inspection, and ongoing diagnostics of the systems’ performance. The EMI-3000 package, which extends routine oil and filter maintenance, is standard on two of the three units.

Thermo King also introduced its Super II-190 trailer refrigeration unit for non-frozen foods and produce (pictured above). “What we’ve done is combined the best attributes of both the SB Series and Super II Whisper Edition and made them available as either standard or optional features,” explains Doug Lenz, Thermo King marketing manager, trailer and rail products. ” Either way, they will have the best available control technology for maintaining temperatures.”

With many of the same components as an SB-190, the Super II-190 comes standard equipped with a Thermo King se 2.2 engine, a X430L reciprocating compressor, MP-VI SMART REEFER controller with Optiset, and Whisper-quiet operation. In addition, the unit features silicone coolant hoses, 12,000-hour service interval coolant, and optional EMI 3000, which extends maintenance intervals from 1500 to 3000 hours.
