T.O. considers $500 truck parking fines
TORONTO – Chalk this under the column for "Another Harebrained Hogtown Revenue Generation Plan."
A Toronto city councillor thinks the city should hand out $500 parking tickets to delivery trucks found blocking street traffic during rush hours.
Councillor Josh Matlow is proposing a $500 fine for anyone caught parking, idling or obstructing traffic in curb lanes — or bike lanes of course — during the morning and afternoon commutes. Plus he thinks they should be towed away.
He says that congestion costs the economy about $3.3 billion per year.
Toronto Council has yet to vote on the motion, which was seconded by Mike Layton, (Jack’s son).
This isn’t the first attack of delivery vehicles from Toronto’s lefty council. Every once in a while someone proposes banning trucks from the downtown core altogether.
And in Vancouver, the city is considering implementing metered zones for truckers and other delivery drivers.
