Today’s Trucking among biggest award winners in Canada

TORONTO — Pound for pound, Today’s Trucking magazine is one of the most honored publications in this country.

According to Masthead magazine — a publication covering the magazine publishing industry — Today’s Trucking ranks 26th among the top 102 magazines in Canada (including both business trade and consumer titles) for total showings at award presentations across the nation.

The first annual Dexter Awards, as Masthead dubbed the exclusive ranking system, measures the number of awards received by Canada’s magazine titles this past year.

Today’s Trucking’s 26th spot overall also measures 4th among all business trade publications.

“We tracked eight award presentations and rated nominees based on their performance. Magazines earned three points for winning a gold (award), two points for a silver, and one point for a nomination or honorable mention,” explains Masthead.

The article cited Today’s Trucking by name, when describing how smaller publications fared against some of Canada’s largest titles. “Other small titles found themselves near the top. Today’s Trucking and Urbania (with circulations of about 30,000 and 10,000 respectively) both won multiple awards to put their Dexter scores into double digits.”

This year at the Kenneth R. Wilson Awards, presented by the Canadian Business Press, Today’s Trucking captured three gold awards, a silver, and two Top Five honorable mentions. That’s on top of the 15 Gold and Silver awards and 12 Top Fives, Today’s Trucking has received since 1994.

According to Masthead, Today’s Trucking also had the 9th highest “batting average” (number of award wins per nomination) among all magazines. Today’s Trucking “batted” .600 in 2006 — meaning it won over two awards for every three nominations.
