Tools down at Navistar
INDIANAPOLIS — International Truck and Engine has announced that high fuel prices and the flailing American construction industry is forcing the company to extend the summer shutdown at its Indianapolis engine plant.
Starting this week, the company will idle about 500 workers until July 14.
The plant supplies diesels for Ford pickup trucks.
Laid-off workers who would be earning about $1,100 a week in base pay, will get about $690 a week during the layoff, which is comprised of state unemployment compensation up to about $390 a week and supplemental pay from the United Auto Workers of $300 a week, according to Associated Press
