Tracking transcore
TransCore has acquired the satellite tracking, monitoring, and global positioning system assets of Vistar Telecommunications, the Ottawa-based producer of the GlobalWave two-way communications system.
TransCore, based in Dallas, operates the DAT Services and Link Logistics freight-matching services, but a growing part of its business is transportation-based RFID products like transponders. The company is producing the standard tag and driver ID card for the FAST (Free And Secure Trade) border clearance program.
Vistar’s GlobalWave MT2000 wireless communication devices are used to track and control trailers and other mobile assets, as well as stationary assets like oil and gas wellhead and pipeline facilities, chemical storage tanks, and containers.
TransCore plans to use both satellite communication and RFID to create a suite of homeland security, fleet management, and supply chain management products that provides “end-to-end visibility for commercial and government applications,” explains TransCore president John Worthington. He adds that TransCore also can enter the ocean transport and maritime fleet markets, and will be able to compete with companies developing satellite-based tolling.
