TransForce buys landfill

MONTREAL — TransForce is in the dumps. But that’s a good thing in this case.

Canada’s largest trucking company, says its waste management subsidiary Services Matrec has acquired the remaining 50 percent interest in the Parc Environnemental AES landfill site in Larouche, Que.

Financial terms of the transaction were not revealed.

Matrec previously held a 50 percent stake in the landfill, which has stored solid trash from the Saguenay and Lac Saint-Jean areas for more than 50 years.

The site has been designed to accommodate composting, recycling and the treatment and landfilling of contaminated soils.

In trading Friday on the TSX, TransForce units rose four cents to $6.55.
